Comet over The Dings! This is a photo of Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF), nicknamed “The Green Comet”. You may have read about it in the news recently, as it’s just made its closest approach to Earth, the last being this nearly 50,000 years ago. The photo was taken using a telescope from my back garden.

Plans to transform former Pure Gym and Mecca Bingo site into 340 home development
A stretch of land which includes a car park, an old Mecca Bingo site and a building that was used by Pure Gym, could be converted into 340 new homes if plans are approved. The developers behind the Brook Dye Works development in St Werburghs have not yet submitted a planning application but held community consultations in February.
Developers finally move forward with ‘Temple Island’ plans including 500 homes, a hotel and a conference centre
Developers have outlined what their plans are for the empty site that was once going to be the place where Bristol’s arena – five years after the Mayor of Bristol put a stop to it.
Instead of the 12,000-capacity arena on the land next to Temple Meads station, developers Legal & General have unveiled plans for 500 new apartments, a new hotel and a conference centre.

Bristol’s Assembly Bakery announces shock sudden closure
Sadly the Assembly Bakery, on West Street, announced its closure on February 3rd, saying the decision was made ‘with a very heavy heart’. It first opened in 2017 and was known for its store-made loaves, pastries and cakes made from locally sourced ingredients.
“Thank you for being a part of our family, thank you for your custom, and thank you for supporting artisanal bread! It has been an honour for us to serve the community over the last five and a half years and we are sad to say goodbye but then all good things come to an end.”

Bristol tips to close two days a week and street-cleaning rounds halved as waste firm faces cash crisis
It said changes agreed upon with the council included reducing the household reuse and recycling centres’ opening hours from seven to five days a week. However, this would have “minimal impact on the city” as the tips would be available to use at peak times, which suggests weekends as well as some weekdays. The plan said: “Significant changes to the street cleansing service will be required to ‘live within our means’.
