The Dings Fun Day

Unfortunately Sunday was not a Funday 🙁

Due to this very annoying rain they made the tough decision to postpone the Fun Day til later in the summer – date to be confirmed.

DigiMakers

Digimakers is back for the budding programmers out there – its a bit further afield but free and a great initiative. Theres a couple on in August for anyone wanting to escape the wet weather.

JumpFit

You can book via MoveGB, SayYuup or online at www.jumpfituk.com.

This is FUN! Jumping Fitness for All! Rebounding reduces body fat, tones your body, increases your agility, strengthens your muscles, provides an aerobic effect for your heart, rejuvenates you when you are tired, but best of all, it makes you smile! It’s a fact that rebounding induces an immediate state of euphoria. In fact, rebounding is “the most efficient and effective exercise known to man”. (NASA)

Land of Make-Believe – shared by Sarah Booth

The land of make-believe! It’s just a horse now as the horn was cut off last night. For those wanting to do the unicorn fest trail check it out here.

Community Reuse Fair

Theres a Community Reuse Fair at Children’s Scrapstore in St Werburghs on 16th September 2023 from 11am – 3pm. It’s a free community event to try and share information and resources and encourage reuse in Bristol.

It would be fab to have some Bristol Repair Cafés represented to share information about the different repair cafes and encourage people to repair more! If anyone is free to come along to represent their repair cafe and give advice and possibly even offer some repairs please get in touch with us at reusefair@childrensscrapstore.co.uk

Lee Pullen’s amazing night sky pictures

From The Dings to the Universe! This is my latest astrophoto, taken from my back garden in The Dings. It shows the Great Globular Cluster in Hercules, which is a collection of around 100,000 stars, packed together 100 times more densely than the stars in our Sun’s stellar neighbourhood. It’s about 22,000 light-years from us, which seems far, but see if you can spot the “little” galaxy in the top-right corner of the image; that’s 30 million light years away!

Thought I’d share this lil guy who was just making his way through the back door, a very welcome guest 🙂🦔

New Bristol cinema will measure audience reactions

A state-of-the-art cinema will monitor audience reactions “like never before”.

Instrumented Auditorium, considered one of the world’s most innovative cinemas, will open in Bristol in 2024.

It will record audiences’ biometric responses, including their heart rate, eye movement and brain activity as they react to what is on the screen.

Iain Gilchrist, Professor of Neuropsychology at the University of Bristol, said it would provide “unique insights” into content creation.

The 36-person cinema will open at the MyWorld creative hub at The Coal Shed in St Phillips, using a £400,000 grant from the Wolfson Foundation.

It will be equipped with cutting-edge equipment to record data on how audiences react to the content they are watching and hearing.
