Dings Fun Day 2024 (Part 1)

Due to weather this was postponed – but the wonderful team decided that they would simply do 2!

Due to the weather forecast for Saturday, we are moving the bulk of the Fun Day to Saturday 5th October. But don’t panic! There will still be a mini Fun Day this Saturday inside the safe Ouse., 2-4pm. We will see a science demonstration (3pm)! We will help make crocodile skins for local artwork! There are free books ! And some fresh groceries available for a donation!

Free ferry trips for community groups this winter

Bristol Community Ferry Boats has announced a new initiative to support groups working with city residents, giving them a chance to access the city’s waterways.

Running once a week, the tours are designed to offer groups a unique way to learn more about Bristol’s maritime history and enjoy the sights from the water.

Community gardening

No pictures from the Community gardening this month although we did do a tidy up. But did spot these wonderful council people out and about clearing leaves.

Hi all, if you shop at Asda, they have just launched a Cashpot for Schools. You can choose any primary school but if you don’t have a connection, consider nominating our local primary. You just need to sign up/into the Asda rewards app and go to Cashpots, and nominate a primary school.

This won’t take cash out of any other cashpots you’ve got going there eg the Christmas one. Hannah More has a high level of need with a high proportion of kids receiving free school meals (aka pupil premium), a lot of kids from non English speaking homes – our area scores high on deprivation indexes. So they could definitely do with the help.

There are also drop in classes on a Wednesday for kids who just want to try dancing and don’t want to do competitions.

Free Story Telling workshop

Mothers of all ages, and all backgrounds, are invited to join Bristol Women’s Voice for a free two-hour workshop to rethink and retell stories of Motherhood. Being a mum is filled with joy, challenges, overwhelm, moments of heartbreak and great celebration, isolation and togetherness. Join in for a small break amidst it all. Thursday 17th October, 10am to 12pm, Wellspring Site, Beam Street. This event is free, but please book your place via eventbrite.

University’s new campus to be a ‘catalyst’ for Bristol

Slowly taking shape on what used to be the Royal Mail sorting office and before that the site of a cattle market, the largest building that is part of the University of Bristol’s new campus has now reached its ‘topping out’ phase.

Green light for £70m construction project

Full planning permission has been granted for a large construction project consisting of apartments, a hotel and an aparthotel.

The site known as ‘Plot 3′ at Temple Quay on the Temple Meads side of the Cheesegrater Bridge is valued at £70m.

Designed by architects Sheppard Robson, the scheme includes the construction of three new buildings comprised of a 234-room hotel operated by Dalata Maldron, a 170-room extended stay aparthotel by Room2 and more than 100 build-to-rent flats by the abrdn investments.

435 new flats could be built on former car showrooms

The view of Bristol for passengers arriving at Temple Meads could be forever changed if a major new housing development is granted planning permission.
