New Bus Service

Well done to all involved (I KNOW how difficult this all was .. !)

Exciting news – The Dings are getting a bus service ! 🤗

The No.61 service will start at the beginning of September. It will be using the old stop on Kingsland Road and will run between Hotwells and St Annes 7 days a week !

With immense thanks to Harry Simpson from Old Market for designing the route and submitting it to the fund, Mayor Dan Norris for WESTlocal funding from the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority. (Funding for the scheme comes from the Department for Transport’s Bus Service Improvement Plan) and The Big Lemon bus company who will be operating the route.

A leaflet will be distrubuted in a few weeks time with full route details.

The Cosmos (as seen from the Dings) by Lee Pullen*

From the Dings to the Cosmos! This is the Iris Nebula, a cloud of gas and dust illuminated by a central star. It lies 1400 light-years from Earth, and is six light-years across. It took six weeks for me to collect enough data to counteract the light pollution shining up into our sky…More info: Urban astro photography

Development News

SILVERTHORNE LANE PASSAGE CLOSURE –

Silverthorne Lane Passage is to be closed for an extended period of time, from 21st August to 15th February 2025.

  • No express reasoning is given as to why the lane will be closed for such a long period of time.
  • However, when referring back to the initial planning proposals for the student accommodation on Plot 6 Silverthorne Lane, as well as the neighbouring Oasis Temple Quarter Academy, the Passage is to be widened to better accommodate these two new developments, as well as an initial proposal to replace the existing footbridge that crosses the Feeder with a new, more wider, footbridge.
  • But whilst the public realm works on the Passage is confirmed, I cannot find any confirmation as to whether a new footbridge will be installed as part of this closure.
  • This extended closure will certainly come as an inconvenience for all residents who use Silverthorne Lane Passage to travel to and thro Avonmeads Retail Park and other businesses in the St. Philips Marsh area.
  • Alternative routes to cross the Feeder during this time will be via either Avon Street Bridge, or Marsh Lane Bridge.

Bristol City Centre Transport Changes consultation 2024

To prepare for around 5,000 more people living in and travelling around Broadmead, we are proposing changes to transform some of our public spaces and surrounding roads to make the city centre more welcoming and people-friendly.

These changes would improve walking, wheeling and cycling routes, benefit existing bus services, and support our long-term goal to create a segregated rapid transit route from the southwest to the northeast of the city.
